What is a Licensed Midwife?
In California, Midwives are health care professionals licensed by the Medical Board of California specializing in caring for women throughout all stages of life, including pregnancy and birth. Midwives provide comprehensive prenatal care, support labor and birth, address complications, and care for newborns. Midwifery care approaches pregnancy and birth as normal life events, which has ultimately been shown to improve outcomes and reduce the incidence of birth injury, birth trauma, and cesarean section.
“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers--strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
