In California, Midwives are health care ​professionals licensed by the Medical Board ​of California specializing in caring for women ​throughout all stages of life, including ​pregnancy and birth. Midwives provide ​comprehensive prenatal care, support labor ​and birth, address complications, and care ​for newborns. Midwifery care approaches ​pregnancy and birth as normal life events, ​which has ultimately been shown to improve ​outcomes and reduce the incidence of birth ​injury, birth trauma, and cesarean section.
